Can dentists cure bad breath?
Yes. Unless your bad breath is originating from something other than an oral health concern, your dentist can treat the underlying cause.
It starts by scheduling an appointment so we can diagnose whether or not your bad breath is a sign of a concerning dental health issue.
How to get rid of bad breath permanently
The right bad breath treatment will depend on its cause.
For example, since gum disease is one of the primary causes of bad breath, your treatment plan may include a deep cleaning treatment. On the other hand, if your halitosis is caused by nighttime mouth breathing, we might recommend an oral appliance.
It’s important to get the right diagnosis so you can find the right solution!
This is a judgment-free office
We know that suffering from bad breath can make you feel self-conscious. You may even be a little nervous about bringing up the topic of bad breath at your appointment. Remember that many people have bad breath and to us dentists, it’s a completely normal problem that we want to help you address. You’ll never feel judged or looked down on here.
How can I prevent bad breath?
Brush your teeth at least 2x a day for 2 minutes
Floss daily
See your dentist every 6 months or as instructed for routine care
Avoid cigarettes and tobacco products
Stay hydrated!
Do gums and mints help bad breath?
While a stick of gum or a quick mint will provide a burst of freshness, they won’t provide a lasting impact. And even though they might mask the odor for a short period of time, many times these solutions are filled with sugar and are bad for your teeth!
What’s the best mouthwash for bad breath?
If you suffer from chronic bad breath, a mouthwash won’t solve the root of the issue. However, if you’d like to incorporate mouthwash into your daily dental health routine, I recommend an anti-plaque or anti-gingivitis rinse. Talk to us to get a specific product recommendation. In general, be wary of commercial mouthwashes as they contain alcohol which can dry out your mouth and make your bad breath even worse.
